About

Raquel Sanchis is an architect specializing in biomaterials, bioclimatic design, and the decarbonization of construction. Trained in Architecture at Pratt Institute in New York, with a Master’s in Sustainable Design and Bioclimatic Architecture, she is the founder and CEO of Hempcrete Spain, a pioneering company in the introduction and development of hempcrete construction in Spain.

Her expertise spans hempcrete, lime, natural insulation, building physics, thermal comfort, moisture management, passive design, healthy materials, circularity, embodied carbon, and regenerative architecture.

Her wider interests explore the future of how we design and build: computational design, robotics, digital fabrication, large-scale 3D printing, construction automation, material-efficient structures, biofabrication, adaptive materials, local and in-situ resource use, and new ways of combining advanced manufacturing with low-carbon and bio-based materials.

Her work is ultimately driven by one question: how can we fundamentally improve the way we build? She is interested in architecture that uses less material and energy, produces less waste, stores rather than emits carbon, responds intelligently to its environment, and combines ancient material intelligence with the possibilities of emerging technology.
