David Kessler explains why grieving people can't return to who they were before loss. You don't get used to a new normal, you just learn to live differently. Accepting what's gone, rather than wishing it back, is where healing starts.

Chapters

  1. If you're wanting the old version of your friend in grief or family member in grief to come back, you're going to be waiting a long time. I'm David Kessler. I'm a grief and loss specialist. People always say to me, "David, my friend, their loved one died and I just want the old them back." The reality is you can't have the old them back. In fact, people in grief would actually love their old self back. The problem is, to get their old self back, we'd have to bring someone back from the dead. And I don't think we have that kind of power. Many people in grief also don't like the term, "Oh, you're getting used to the new normal." The truth is they're having to accept a different normal. And there's nothing that even feels normal about their world that has changed. How about instead of wanting them to come back to who they were, we just accept them as who they are now? Because that's what they're having to do. Let me know your thoughts and follow for more information and support.
