Grief specialist David Kessler says talking to dead loved ones is normal and healthy, not something to move past. He calls this "continuing bonds"—death ends life but not love or connection. Ignore old advice about closure.

  1. Is it possible to talk to the dead? I'm David Kessler. I'm a grief and loss specialist. You'd be surprised how many people say to me, David, I still talk to my husband who died, or I still talk to my child, or my dad, or my mom. And often they say it to me like they're doing something weird. The truth is, it's actually normal and healthy to talk to those who have died. Years ago in psychology, it was thought that we should find closure after someone dies and be done. I'm not a believer in closure. I don't think we ever close the doors on our loved ones. But now we have what's called continuing bonds with those who have died. Just because they're not physically here doesn't mean our connection ends. I always say, don't give death any more power than it already has. Death has the power to physically end our loved one's life. But it doesn't have the power to end our love for them or our relationships with them. Do you still talk to your loved ones? Let me know your thoughts and follow for more information and support.
