I'm Hugh. I run the Biomechatronics group at the MIT Media Lab.
I lost both legs in a climbing accident on Mount Washington, which led me to building my own prosthetic legs and going back to climbing at the same level as before. That's what pulled me into this work and the Empower powered ankle, now made by Ottobock.
Today I work with surgeon Matthew Carty on , a way to connect nerve and muscle to a prosthetic limb so the brain can control it naturally. I also run , , and . Happy to chat!
