I Pioneered Internet banking in 1994 at La Jolla Bank, Co-authored McGraw Hills’ first book on Digital Finance in 1997 and was founding CEO at AXOS Bank, then known as BofI or Bank of Internet USA in 2000. I have been in banking since the 1970. And soon after starting I knew that I wanted to start a bank one day. I needed to learn all about banking and fortunately became a CFO, COO, CCO, CEO and was always the bank Economist. I have been hands on for every bank-initiated technology since credit cards.

My leadership style has always been hands on, technical, and innovation driven. I designed the RPA framework for AXOS in 2000 — today RPA + AI = Intelligent Automation, and built AXOS Bank’s early automation systems, a foundational step toward what is now recognized as Agentic AI.

Financial Analysis and modeling were an early specialty of mine. In the early 1980s, I collaborated with bankers and technology staff to lead the development of the first asset/liability and IRR management system at one of the nation’s largest Savings & Loans.

The same instinct that pushed me to pioneer digital banking is pushing again, but the frontier is far larger now: decentralized ecosystems, immersive financial experiences, and autonomous systems that redefine how institutions serve people. I am being drawn back into full time banking, not as a CEO but to lead change management. — to help shape what banking must become.

The next era of finance will be built at the intersection of Web3, the Metaverse, and AI driven intelligent automation, with low-cost merchant payments and I am excited to help lead that transformation.
