Kathryn Najafi MD

Dr. Kathryn K. Najafi-Tagol is a leading ophthalmologist and surgeon with deep expertise in cataract surgery and advanced intraocular lens (IOL) technology. As founder of the Eye Institute of Marin, she has created a center of excellence for personalized vision correction using premium IOLs—including toric, multifocal, extended depth-of-focus, and Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL). Her surgical precision and use of innovative lens options allow patients to achieve greater visual freedom and improved quality of life.

Dr. Najafi-Tagol also serves as Chief of Ophthalmology and Vice Chair of Surgery at MarinHealth Medical Center. She is the inventor of Avenova®, a HOCl-based solution that improves ocular surface health, especially for patients undergoing cataract or glaucoma treatment.

In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Najafi-Tagol specializes in the medical, laser, and surgical management of glaucoma. She has extensive experience with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and advanced laser therapies to help patients control eye pressure and preserve vision.

A clinical researcher and former VP of Medical Affairs at NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, she has led international trials and continues to study new therapies for post-operative healing.
