I'm Ernie, a freelance consultant and writer operating under the name Mangrove Labs. I’ve been a CTO, a Code for America fellow, co‑founder of Code for Miami, and, most recently, built accessibility and inclusive AI programs at Intuit, while also teaching full‑stack development at Strategio and BrainStation. I write sardonic, direct pieces about the pressure of being the “good Asian son,” and I’m quick to call out the uncomfortable truth with a joke.

I've been writing publicly online since 1999 and have two Substack newsletters — Little Yellow Different (personal essays, been going since 2000) and Late to the Future (AI and tech, newer but where I do my actual experiments).
