Kamryn Oakenshield

I bring 8 years of experience in mental healthcare, and my journey has been shaped by my intersecting identities as a queer, gender-fluid, non-monogamous, kinky, geeky, neurodivergent parent and therapist. Recognizing the complex interplay of privilege and oppression inherent as a white, AFAB individual, I approach life with a commitment to curiosity, compassion, courage, and a dedication to amplifying the voices of marginalized identities while advocating for more comprehensive education and contributing to more informed and compassionate practices that honor the diversity of human sexuality. I invite open dialogue about how various identities and experiences shape contributions to social and academic discourse, and welcomes opportunities to learn from others' diverse perspectives. My academic and professional background includes the completion of a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in gender and sexuality studies, a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy and subsequent licensure and supervisory status as a licensed therapist, the opportunities and limitations of which I acknowledge. Currently, in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality, I aim to contribute to society by working to bridge the gap between community and academic discourse on human sexuality and identities while creating safer spaces for exploration, education, and practice. I enjoy engaging in philosophical thought experiments, karaoke, reading (fantasy, sci-fi, erotica), and writing poetry.
